Quincy Pruitt Obituary: Laurel Man, 43, Dies After Shooting
The Laurel, Mississippi, community is mourning the death of 43-year-old Quincy Pruitt, who died after being shot late Saturday night.
Pruitt was found suffering from multiple gunshot wounds after Laurel police responded to a report of shots fired near Ferrell Street and Rose Avenue shortly before midnight. He was transported to an area hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
His death remains under investigation as authorities work to determine the full circumstances surrounding the shooting.
Quincy Pruitt Dies After Laurel Shooting
According to Laurel Police Chief Earl Reed, officers responded to the area shortly before midnight following reports of gunfire.
When police arrived, they found Pruitt with several gunshot wounds. Emergency responders transported him to a nearby hospital, but despite medical efforts, he succumbed to his injuries.
Authorities said Pruitt’s electric bike was also taken during the incident.
Police believe an argument began after multiple individuals attempted to take the bike from Pruitt. According to Chief Reed, witnesses told investigators that the bike was owned by Pruitt and was considered a high-value item.
The argument reportedly escalated, followed by the shooting.
Suspects Identified in Quincy Pruitt Case
Police have identified several suspects in connection with Pruitt’s death.
Eric Drummond Jr., 22, has been charged with murder and is currently in custody. He is expected to appear before a judge Tuesday.
Authorities also identified 25-year-old Jhavon Grayson and 31-year-old Clifton Bell, both of Laurel, as additional suspects.
According to Chief Reed, Grayson is expected to face a murder charge, while Bell is expected to be charged with accessory after the fact to murder.
The charges are allegations, and the case remains under investigation and subject to the legal process.
Evidence Helps Investigators Identify Suspects
Investigators identified the suspects with assistance from witness accounts and video captured by a Ring security camera, according to Laurel police.
Authorities continue to investigate the events leading up to the shooting and are seeking additional information that could help establish what happened.
Police are asking anyone who knows the whereabouts of Grayson or Bell, or who may have information relevant to the case, to contact the Laurel Police Department or Jones County Crime Stoppers.
