Ian Campbell and Hannah Campbell Obituary: Father and Daughter Die in Tragic Queensland Plane Crash

Ian Campbell, 56, and his daughter, Hannah Campbell, have been identified as the two people who died in a tragic light plane crash south of Brisbane on Monday, September 7, 2026.

The aircraft crashed in the rural Stockleigh area just minutes after taking off, shortly after 11 a.m., sparking a grass fire and prompting a major emergency response.

Australian media outlets reported that the victims were found inside the burning wreckage of the aircraft. Queensland authorities said both occupants were pronounced dead at the scene.

Ian Campbell and Daughter Hannah Campbell Killed in Plane Crash

Ian Campbell was a well-known businessman and fourth-generation dairy farmer who lived in Ascot.

He was the founder of Barambah Organics, a dairy business he established with his wife, Jane, in 2002. Campbell also founded Mañana Pastoral, a Darling Downs farm producing lamb, beef and extra virgin olive oil.

Beyond his business career, Campbell maintained a longstanding connection to farming and aviation. He completed his pilot training in 1999, according to reports citing The Maranoa Today.

His daughter, Hannah Campbell, was also aboard the aircraft when it crashed in Stockleigh. The loss of father and daughter in the same devastating incident has left their family and community mourning an unimaginable tragedy.

What Happened in the Stockleigh Plane Crash?

The exact cause of the crash remained unknown as investigators began examining the circumstances surrounding the flight.

Mel Adams, Chief Superintendent and District Officer for the Logan District, said authorities were still working to determine what happened while the aircraft was in the air.

The plane had departed from Brisbane’s secondary airport at Archerfield and crashed less than 20 minutes later, according to flight data reported by News.com.au.

Police urged anyone who may have heard or seen the aircraft before the crash, particularly around Stockleigh or Chambers Flat, to come forward with information.

Investigators also appealed to motorists who may have captured the aircraft on dashcam footage because the crash occurred near a roadway.

Emergency Crews Responded to Burning Wreckage

The crash caused a grass fire at the site, adding another challenge for first responders.

Queensland Ambulance Service crews were called to the scene shortly after 11 a.m. and confirmed that the two people aboard the aircraft had died.

“Two occupants of the aircraft were declared deceased at the scene,” a QAS spokesperson said.

Ambulance crews remained on standby while the Queensland Fire Department worked to contain the fire caused by the crash.

Authorities described the scene as confronting as emergency personnel began the difficult work of securing the area and investigating the wreckage.

ATSB Investigates Fatal Aircraft Crash

Three Brisbane-based Australian Transport Safety Bureau investigators were sent to the crash site to begin examining the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.

The ATSB said investigators would gather evidence, examine the crash site and wreckage, and recover aircraft components that could provide important information about what happened.

Those components may later be transported to the ATSB’s technical facilities in Canberra for further examination.

The investigation is expected to focus on the aircraft’s condition, flight path, available records and any evidence that could help explain why the plane went down so soon after takeoff.

Remembering Ian Campbell and Hannah Campbell

Ian Campbell was remembered through his work as a businessman, farmer and founder of Barambah Organics, a company he built alongside his wife.

His career reflected a deep connection to agriculture and the farming traditions he inherited as a fourth-generation dairy farmer. His involvement with Mañana Pastoral further reflected his commitment to rural enterprise in Queensland.

The circumstances surrounding his death, alongside that of his daughter Hannah, have made the Stockleigh crash an especially heartbreaking loss for their family and those who knew them.

As investigators work to determine what caused the aircraft to crash, Ian Campbell and Hannah Campbell will be remembered by their loved ones as a father and daughter whose lives were tragically cut short.

Our thoughts are with the Campbell family, their friends, and everyone affected by this devastating loss.
