Julio C. Pineda Obituary: 75-Year-Old Dies in Tragic Miami Airport Crash
Julio C. Pineda, 75, has been identified as one of five people who died after an Amazon cargo plane overshot a runway and crashed into vehicles near Miami International Airport on Sunday.
The Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office released Pineda’s name Tuesday as authorities continued their investigation into the deadly incident.
Julio C. Pineda Killed in Miami Crash
The fatal crash involved Amazon Air Flight 7598, a Boeing 767-33A operated by 21 Air LLC.
The aircraft had traveled between Cincinnati, Miami and San Juan, Puerto Rico, before returning to Miami on its third flight of the day.
According to the NTSB, the aircraft overran Runway 30 while landing and struck navigational aids before hitting a white Ford Econoline van inside the airport.
Seven people were inside the van.
The aircraft then broke through a perimeter fence and collided with a Toyota Corolla Cross LE traveling on Northwest 67th Avenue.
All five people who died were inside the two vehicles.
Five Victims Identified
Julio C. Pineda, 75, was among the five people killed.
The other victims were Rolando Aleman Leon, Yoel Rodriguez Naranjo, Carlos Acosta Fajardo and Javierkys Reyes Quevedo.
Five people were also injured in the crash. Three remained hospitalized, including two people who were in critical condition.
The pilot and co-pilot were treated at a Miami hospital and later released.
NTSB Leads Investigation
NTSB Chair Jennifer Homendy said the aircraft traveled approximately 1,300 feet beyond the paved surface after the runway overrun.
The investigation remains focused on determining what caused the aircraft to leave the runway and ultimately collide with the vehicles.
