Carlos Acosta Fajardo Obituary: 53-Year-Old Dies in Miami Amazon Plane Crash
Carlos Acosta Fajardo, 53, has been identified as one of five people who died after an Amazon cargo plane crashed into vehicles near Miami International Airport on Sunday.
The Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office released the identities of those killed Tuesday as the National Transportation Safety Board continued investigating the accident.
Carlos Acosta Fajardo Killed in Miami Plane Crash
The crash involved Amazon Air Flight 7598, a Boeing 767-33A operated by 21 Air LLC.
The aircraft had arrived in Miami from San Juan, Puerto Rico, when it overran Runway 30 during landing.
According to NTSB Chair Jennifer Homendy, the plane struck navigational aids before colliding with a white Ford Econoline van operated by Professional Ocean Service Corporation.
Seven people were inside the van.
The aircraft then went through a perimeter fence and struck a Toyota Corolla Cross LE traveling along Northwest 67th Avenue.
Authorities said all five people killed in the incident were occupants of the two vehicles.
Deadly Crash Leaves Five Victims
Carlos Acosta Fajardo was among the five people who lost their lives.
The other victims were Rolando Aleman Leon, Yoel Rodriguez Naranjo, Julio C. Pineda and Javierkys Reyes Quevedo.
Five additional people were injured. Three remained hospitalized following the crash, including two people in critical condition.
The aircraft’s pilot and co-pilot were also injured but were treated and released from a Miami hospital.
Investigation Continues
The NTSB said the aircraft traveled approximately 1,300 feet beyond the paved runway surface during the crash sequence.
Investigators are examining the aircraft, runway overrun and subsequent collisions as they work to establish what caused the accident.
