Alexander Honea Obituary: 9-Year-Old Topeka Boy Dies in Mobile Home Fire
Alexander Honea, 9, of Topeka, has been identified as the child who died in a devastating mobile home fire in North Topeka early Monday morning.
Topeka Fire Department officials identified Alexander on Wednesday following the fire at a mobile home at 137 N.E. Coachlight Drive. The blaze also injured six other people, including a child and an adult who were rescued from the home.
Alexander Honea Dies in North Topeka Fire
The fire was reported at approximately 3:45 a.m. Monday.
When firefighters arrived, they found flames and heavy smoke coming from the mobile home. Crews worked to rescue those inside and brought the fire under control, preventing it from spreading beyond the home where it began.
Alexander was among those inside the residence when the fire broke out.
An adult man and a child were rescued from the mobile home and transported to a hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Six Others Injured in Mobile Home Fire
The deadly fire also injured six other people.
Among those hurt were two Topeka police officers, a Topeka firefighter and another person, according to fire officials.
A woman who was inside the mobile home was able to escape safely.
The emergency response involved firefighters, police officers and medical personnel as crews worked to rescue residents and contain the blaze.
Fire Determined to Be Accidental
Investigators with the Topeka Fire Department determined that the preliminary cause of the fire was accidental and electrical in nature.
Officials said the fire was contained to the mobile home where it originated.
The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the fatal fire remains part of the department’s review.
