Julie Williams Obituary: Weymouth Nurse Remembered for Her Faith, Compassion and Courage

Julie Marie Williams, 50, of Weymouth, Massachusetts, passed away on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, at her home surrounded by her family and closest loved ones. She had courageously battled cancer for 12 years.

A devoted daughter, sister, fiancé, registered nurse and friend, Julie leaves behind a lasting legacy of Catholic faith, compassion, resilience and joy. Those who knew her remember a woman who had a remarkable gift for making people feel welcomed, valued and loved.

Early Life and Beloved Family

Julie was born on August 14, 1976, in Boston, Massachusetts, and was raised in Braintree. She was the beloved daughter of Paul and Ann Marie (Rosano) Williams.

Her brother, Reverend Matthew M. Williams, is the pastor of Saint John the Baptist and Saint Joseph Parishes in Quincy. Julie shared a close relationship with her brother and treasured the strong bonds she had with her extended family.

Family was at the heart of Julie’s life. She loved spending time with her many cousins, aunts and uncles and cherished the traditions that brought everyone together.

Holiday gatherings, weddings, birthdays, camping trips, sleepovers and family celebrations created countless memories that Julie carried with her throughout her life.

A Woman Who Brought Joy to Others

Julie was widely remembered for her ability to bring happiness wherever she went.

Her warm and engaging personality allowed her to form connections with people from all walks of life, including family members, friends, neighbors, patients and even people she had only recently met.

She had a natural ability to make others feel comfortable and cared for.

Julie also possessed a wonderful sense of humor and loved telling stories. She enjoyed long conversations, good food and evenings spent with friends, often gathering around a dinner table with a bottle of wine or a martini.

Her Catholic faith was equally central to who she was.

Julie sought to live out her devotion to Jesus and the Blessed Virgin Mary through her actions, treating others with kindness and compassion and maintaining a genuine concern for the people around her.

A Dedicated Career as a Registered Nurse

Julie devoted more than two decades of her professional life to nursing.

She began her nursing education at Labouré Nursing School before continuing her studies at Curry College, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing.

For approximately 15 years, Julie worked at Boston Children’s Hospital, where her compassion, knowledge and dedication made a lasting impression on patients, families and colleagues.

She frequently served as a charge nurse, taking responsibility for overseeing a floor or unit and helping ensure that patients received the care they needed.

Later in her career at Boston Children’s, Julie became a Coordinator of Patient Placement. The demanding role required extensive knowledge, organization and the ability to remain composed while managing complex situations.

Julie approached nursing not simply as a profession but as a vocation. Her natural compassion shaped the way she cared for others, and she developed many friendships with colleagues throughout her career.

Julie’s Courageous 12-Year Battle With Cancer

Julie faced a 12-year battle with breast cancer with extraordinary courage and faith.

She initially overcame stage three breast cancer, but within a year, the disease returned as stage four metastatic cancer.

Despite the difficult diagnosis, Julie continued to live with determination for another decade, supported by her family, friends, prayer community, oncologist Dr. Rosenberg and the Oncology Medical Team at Atrius Health.

Her loved ones remembered the way she confronted illness as an example of perseverance and grace.

Rather than allowing cancer to define her life, Julie remained committed to the people and faith that meant the most to her. She sought to unite her suffering with her religious beliefs and offered her struggles in prayer, particularly for the souls in purgatory.

Faith and Her Relationship With Frank Ruscio

Faith remained a powerful source of strength throughout Julie’s life.

She attended Mass regularly and shared her Catholic faith with the people around her. Her relationship with her high school sweetheart, Frank Ruscio, became an especially meaningful part of her later years.

After many years apart, Julie and Frank reconnected and eventually became engaged.

Their renewed relationship brought Julie tremendous happiness. The couple attended Mass together each weekend and spent time in Eucharistic Adoration.

They also enjoyed cooking and preparing meals for family members, friends and priests during holidays and holy days.

Their engagement on July 16 was described as one of the happiest days of Julie’s life, giving her loved ones an opportunity to celebrate their relationship together.

Julie’s Love for Family and Animals

Julie treasured both the big moments and simple everyday experiences she shared with her family.

She remained particularly close to her parents and brother, and her family remembered countless hours spent around the kitchen table, along with trips, pilgrimages, dinners and other shared experiences.

Julie also had a deep love for animals.

Throughout her life, pets named Raphael, Rudy, Jessie, Rocco, Willie and Max became cherished members of her family.

Raphael held a particularly special place in Julie’s heart. She affectionately regarded him as the “son” she had always wanted and took great delight in dressing him for holidays, grooming him and caring for him.

Her bond with Raphael and her other pets brought her comfort and happiness throughout the years.

A Legacy of Faith, Compassion and Perseverance

Julie Williams’ life was defined by her ability to find joy even during some of her most difficult moments.

Her family remembered a woman who refused to allow hardship to overshadow her love for God, her family, her friends and the people she encountered.

As a nurse, she extended that compassion to countless patients and families. As a daughter, sister, fiancé and friend, she brought the same warmth and generosity to the people closest to her.

Her loved ones hope that Julie’s example of faith, perseverance and love will encourage others facing their own challenges to move forward with courage and trust.

Julie is survived by her parents, Paul and Ann Marie Williams; her brother, Reverend Matthew M. Williams; her fiancé, Frank Ruscio; and numerous beloved cousins, extended family members and dear friends.
